If you’re looking for a witchy weekend in Salem, Massachusetts or a low-key night with a little magic, I’ve created a list of places to visit and things to do that will be perfect for any itinerary.
Whether you’re looking for a bit of fun or looking for deeper meaning, Salem offers a range of spooky delights to connect with your inner spirit.
Gather your coven for a tarot card reading at Crowhaven Corner, Salem’s oldest witch shop. Meet with Lorelai, a love clairvoyant who specializes in helping you attract the lover of your dreams! Located on Essex Street in downtown Salem, Crowhaven Corner offers readings by appointment or drop-in. Be sure to explore the shop’s wide trove of candles, spell kits, crystals and more while you wait for your future to be told.
For a more mystically enticing experience — seances, divination, and psychic readings — stop by Omen, which is sure to awaken even more fun and mischief.
Another local favorite is aura photography, which captures the energy you are currently sending out to the world — a true snapshot of “you.” Discover and break down your vibe with aura photography at shops like Ascend, Salem Flea, or Hauswitch, a boutique crystal and home healing shop. Hauswitch also offers classes like astrology 101, Intro to tarot, and weekly Monday night meditation.
For the witches and wizards who prefer Sorting Hats and Boy Wizards, step into Wynotts Wands, a Harry Potter-like wand shop where you can craft a wand for yourself or for your friends!
My all-time favorite spot to hit on a night out in Salem is Bit Bar, an arcade bar that serves pub food, video-game inspired cocktails (like the Princess Peach), and of course, tons of nostalgic games like DDR, pinball, and Skee-Ball. If I have a visitor in town, I make sure we stop at Bit Bar, as it holds special memories for myself, my husband, and my friends.
If your party is looking for something a little more high-end, be sure to check out Ledger Restaurant & Bar, which boats “traditional 19th-century dishes, cocktails, and techniques elevated with 21-century resources.” Located in a circa 1818 bank, Ledger offers delicious dishes and an impressive wine menu with a unique atmosphere.
For those looking to get their hands on some fantastic local seafood look no further than the Salem’s Pickering Wharf, where both Finzs and Sea Level Oyster bar are docked with an incredible view of the harbor.
If a chill night in with pizza is your thing, I highly recommend Flying Saucer. They have tons of movie-inspired gourmet pizza options, with plenty of gluten free and dairy choices!
Salem may be known for its historic past and witchcraft, but it’s also one of the best cities to visit for a night out north of Boston!
The Roof, located above the Salem Hotel on Essex Street, offers great dinner and cocktail options paired with a gorgeous view of Salem.
Looking to go out and dance? Hit up O’Neils or Village Tavern any time after 10pm for a night of dancing to the hottest hits.
If a chill vibe is more your style, All Souls Lounge and Deacon Giles Distillery serve up delicious cocktails. Both go-to spots in Salem, you’ll be sipping with tourists and locals alike.
Depending on the season, there are plenty of outdoor markets to explore. Some seasonal shopping includes things like the outdoor Salem Flea Market, the Winter Market, Food Truck Festival, and the Farmers Market. But if vintage and thrifting is your thing, the Salem Flea has a permeant shop right downtown! With over forty vendors at this location, the inventory is always changing so there’s never a shortage of unique trinkets to pick up for a souvenir.
If you find yourself in Salem during the heigh of the Halloween season in October, be sure to take a stroll through Salem’s Haunted Happenings Marketplace, located throughout Salem Common by the infamous Hawthorne Hotel and in Derby Square.
For those looking for something extra special to mark your trip with, you and your spooky sisters can get permeant bracelets at Jenni Stewart Jewelry. Beautiful craftsmanship meets bespoke and contemporary designs with rings, necklaces and more.
There are countless ways to take in the rich history and supernatural personality of Salem. Interested in a walking tour? Ghost tours, historic tours, and tours that explore the controversies of the witch trials abound. Want to explore Salem Sanderson Sister-style? Take a Hocus Pocus tour!
Want to see the sights but don’t feel like a walking tour? Learn about the rich history of Salem from the comfort of a tour bus.
You can also learn about Salem in a more interactive way by visiting museums like the Witch Trial Museum or the Witch Dungeon Museum.
If your group is looking to explore a more creative side to Salem, don’t miss the Peabody Essex Museum, which focuses on “creativity, cultural understanding, and innovation.”
Need a quick pick me up during your stay? There is no shortage of coffee shops in downtown to keep you going during your stay here. Down by the wharf you’ll find JaHo, one of my favorite coffee shops in town, with a scenic view of the ocean and a mean Pumpkin Spice Latte.
Back on Washington Street, stop by Odd Meter, another local favorite with seasonal “coffee cocktails” like an Iced Boo-Berry Latte and a Razzmatazz Latte for the espresso lovers.
Down on Essex Street, BrewBox offers quick and delicious drinks like a Cereal Milk Latte.
Need a little luxurious R& R? If you’re looking for a quiet afternoon activity between sightseeing and position making, be sure to book a reservation at Jolie Tea for a quick cup or a pampered high tea with your group.
Don’t forget to cap off the best bachelorette trip by capturing the moment! Enlist your party to unleash their inner magic and enchantment with one of my spooky shoots.
No matter the season or the weather, there is always something fun and magical to do here in Witch City with you and your coven.
